Abstract

The domestic economy is characterized by excessive import dependence on both high-tech products and consumer goods, the production of which can be established in the country. This situation is caused by the lack of real structural and institutional reforms, low investment and innovation activity of domestic producers, the use of outdated technological base and the dominance of low-tech industries. The aim of the study is to analyze the reasons and features of import dependence of certain sectors of the economy of Ukraine considering the share of imports in intermediate and final consumption and the commodity structure of imports. General and special methods of scientific research, including induction and deduction, analysis and synthesis were used to summarize the conceptual foundations and theoretical foundations of the domestic economy; economic and statistical methods were used to get a detailed analysis of the import dependence of individual sectors of the national economy in terms of product groups and intermediate and final consumption; systematization and generalization methods were used to identify the causes and destructive factors of increasing the level of import dependence of the Ukrainian economy. The import dependence of certain sectors of the domestic economy is analyzed in the article. It is pointed out that the Ukrainian chemical industry is characterized by excessive import dependence in the segment of intermediate consumption (over 80%). It is grounded that the light industry of Ukraine largely depends on toll raw materials and the use of tolling schemes, the product range is dominated by imported textiles and textile products (over 75%), indices of light industry production and sales have been showing a decreasing tendency since 2017. The research shows that the structure of imports of the woodworking industry is dominated by products with a high level of technological processing (48 product groups), intermediate consumption accounts for more than 80%, gross capital accumulation in this sector is almost absent. The article proves that the degree of import dependence of domestic industries depends on such criteria as the level of manufacturability and cost of production
