Abstract
The article deals with the issues of police training at higher educational establishments of Ukraine. The effective implementation of the tasks assigned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police of Ukraine requires improving the quality of specialists training and further improvement of education sector. However, further reformation of the National Police of Ukraine requires the introduction of new standards for police training. The purpose of the article is to determine the peculiarities of police training in higher educational establishments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and to clarify the priority directions of reforming the departmental education system in accordance with European standards. The scientific research made it possible to formulate the following conclusions: 1) high-quality professional training of police officers is possible only if the higher educational establishments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine are functioning. The departmental education system is able to train qualified police officers, taking into account the existing needs and requirements of the community; 2) the specifics of modern law enforcement activities require not only moral and psychological stability and physical firmness from the National Police officers, but also thorough legal knowledge, developed legal and psychological culture, skills and abilities. This can be achieved by reforming the education system in departmental institutions. The practical component of police training is important, in particular through the application of training methods; 3) Ukraine’s integration into the European Union community should involve borrowing European positive experience in the field of police training. It is necessary to combine the standards of police training in other countries with proven national practice and features in the field of education
