The process of integration and adaptation of ukraine’s legislationto the requirements of the European Union is a difficult taskin the field of ecology and it is possibleunder the condition of international normative-legal cooperation. Despite the development of an adaptation mechanism defined in the Law of Ukraine “About the National Program of Adaptation of the Legislation of Ukraine to the Legislation of the European Union”, there are a number of problems which are displayed in a clear definition the terms used, the correct its translation, as well as the absence of relevant experts and expertsof EU in the field of law. The purpose of the article is to study the peculiarities of integration and international cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of environmental protection, as well as the definition of priority areas and practical aspects in which the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to EU norms and standards is carried out. To achieve the purpose of the article general scientific methods of cognition are used – system-structural, historical, logical, functional. The process of integration and adaptation to the legislation of the European Union is based on stage-by-stage implementation ofintroduction of environmental norms and standards of the European Union into the legislative base of Ukraine. For this purpose, conservation of biological diversity, environmental impact assessment, consideration of all factors influencing decision-making in the field of ecology, ecologization of public consciousness are important principles of the environmental policy of the countries of the European Union, which should be implemented by Ukraine. Cooperation between the countries of the European Union and Ukraine should be appreciate the following goals: implementation of institutional reforms, development of sectoral strategies in the field of environmental protection. Considering the issues of adaptation of the environmental legislation of Ukraine to the norms and standards of the European Union distinguish three practical aspects: transposition its a approximation or a change of national legal acts; realization its a formation and an effective activity of the relevant institutions; implementation of law enforcement activities its an implementation of appropriate control measures for the proper observance of environmental and environmental legislation. The state policy of Ukraine in the processes of integration and adaptation of legislation in the field of environmental protection to the legal standards of the European Union should be aimed at: conducting meaningful, qualitative, effective legal reform; ensuring unified approaches to standardization; obligatory consideration of the requirements of EU legislation; unconditional fulfillment of international obligations; consistent consideration of the recommendations of the world summits of EU countries; ensuring active participation of experts from Ukraine in the work of international organizations
